Assumption, Claravall-Gonzalez School of Classical Ballet hold 'Pasasalamat' By Ramel dela Cruz
IN ACCORDANCE with its celebration of the 96th Foundation Day, Assumption School of Iloilo, in cooperation with the Claravall-Gonzalez School of Classical Ballet presented “Pasasalamat” last July 14 at the St. Anne's Hall of the former.
The school's ballerinas were joined by Ballet Manila Company's Alvin Santos, Lemuel Capa, and Jonathan Janolo.
Santos is a classical ballet dancer, a scholar of the Ballet Manila School since 1998. He has danced and played major roles such as Pinocchio, performed in Giselle, Don Quixote, Romeo and Juliet, among others. Last August 2003, he became the first Filipino classical dancer to receive a finalist certificate in the junior division at the 9th Asian Pacific International Ballet Competition held in Tokyo, Japan.
Capa, had been a scholar of Ballet Manila School since he was 14 years old. Capa performed in various productions such as the Enchanted Garden, Ecole, Masquerade, Don Quixote, Nutcracker, Giselle, Naughty Daughters, Pinocchio, and Romeo and Juliet.
Janolo is now an Assistant Ballet Dancer. He has been a scholar of Ballet Manila School since 1998. He performed in Walpurgis Nacht, The Nutcracker, Giselle, as Prince Siegfried in the Adagio of Swan Lake, and Conrad in the full-length Le Corsaire, among others.
At the show, there were 13 dance numbers, entitled Sifuni Mungu, Pas De Trois from Swan Lake, Ripples, Bluebird Pas De Deux from Sleeping Beauty, Larong Pambata, Peasant Pas De Deux from Giselle, Harlequinade, Spanish Dance from Sleeping Beauty, Finger Fairy Variation from Sleeping Beauty, Variation from Don Quixote, Dance, Matsuri, and the Finale.
Ballet dancers wore colorful and attractive costumes of princes, princesses, birds, peasants and Kimonos.
They moved with grace and with feelings; their steps were perfect, which elicited applause from the audience.
“The show is also a way of thanksgiving for the 22 years of existence of the Claravall-Gonazalez School of Classical Ballet,” according to directress Nila Gonzalez.
