Police chief cited as city's 'adopted son'
By Ruby P. Silubrico

THE Regional Director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) received a plaque Monday from the City Government under Mayor Jerry Treñas as an adopted son of Iloilo.

In a letter, Treñas stated that although Chief Superintendent Doroteo Reyes II is a native of Bulacan, he is considered an adopted son because of his valuable support to the programs of the City Government and maintaining peace and order here.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

“As an outstanding and committed public servant who has undergone training and workshops here and abroad, who introduced and develops new initiatives and technology, which resulted to the decline of crime. He took steps in providing additional police officers in Iloilo City and provided 4 caliber .9mm pistols, five caliber .45 pistols, 2 motorcycles and assigned the additional 120 police personnel in Iloilo City Police Office that some were designated at Task Force Bakhaw, which were instrumental in the success of the campaign against illegal drugs and other related cases within his jurisdiction.”

“That Regional Director Reyes displayed unquestionable integrity, willingness, justice and took the people's sentiments and loyal to the constitution,” Treñas's letter stated.

Reyes expressed gratitude to this gesture. “I accept this with humility and pride “because Ilonggos are very loving; that's why I married an Ilongga.” He is married to Maasinhon lawyer Ma. Mercedes Victoria.

Reyes will be retiring on August 2. He'll also celebrate his 56th birthday after his last term in Western Visayas.
