Club 97 By Vincent Alocada
"I ENJOY working with people. I used to run our Internet café, Web Hackers, but I got bored so I passed it to my brother."
That was the explanation of Vanessa Chaw when she was asked why she decided to open a resto-bar despite the cut-throat competition between the already existing places of such nature in this part of the country.
"In 1997, I went to Hong Kong to work as a waitress in different bars and clubs there until I finally became a bartender. I worked there until 2002. I don't want to elaborate but 1997 is such a memorable year and that's the reason why I decided to call my place Club '97." Only almost a month after it opened its doors to the public, Club '97 has already become one of the favored destinations of Ilonggos who want to chill out, party or simply wine and dine. The size of the place is just right for friends to have intimate moments and discussions. The music played ranges from RnB, club, house-mix and tribal. And for those individuals who want to unleash the singer in them, Club '97 also offers a videoke room for the reasonable consumable rate of five hundred pesos for three hours.
Speaking of prices, Van believes that the cheap tag they have on their foods and drinks is something that sets Club '97 apart from other resto-bars. Imagine this: a personal pizza with a size smaller than regular plate only costs P70, and it comes in three variants. Of course, they also have other food choices like the cheesy sisig, gambas among an array of side-dishes. Apart from beers and other alcoholic beverages found in all resto-bars, Van recommends Club '97 shooters,(many of which she personally concocted) like the Extremity Fist (vodka, tequila and white rhum), Sweet Eruption (banana liquer, Amaretto and Tanduay) and Malicious Mint (Creme de Menthe, tequila and Kahlua). The price? Believe it, only P40.
"Normally, when people go out to drink, they order for beer. It's very predictable. In my case, because I make it a point to interact with the customers, I always ask them their purpose for drinking. If they want to drink just to socialize with friends, I recommend a particular drink. If they want to get drunk, I also recommend something. If they have a headache, I also have something. Personal approach to a customer is very important" Van ended./VA
Note: Club 97 is located along The Rocky Road, Benigno Aquino, Barangay San Rafael, Diversion Road, Mandurriao.
