Village heads turn against president By Kathy Villalon Cinco
INVOKING "lack of trust", the village heads in Mandurriao decided to hold an election and choose a new president.
Ramonito Gentogratis, spokesperson of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) of Mandurriao, said 13 of the 18 village heads decided to hold an election.
"We had made a resolution withdrawing our support from Jess Mercado," he said over Aksyon Radyo Monday.
From that election, George Duron was elected as president.
Mercado on the other hand said he had no idea that his colleagues met. He also denied allegations that he has failed to call meetings; he said he had been serving his post well.
Meanwhile, Duron denied Mercado's allegation that he masterminded the latter's ouster from his post.
"The village heads have their own minds, I can't teach them what to do," Duron was quoted as saying over the radio.
Duron said the move stemmed from lose of trust by the village chiefs towards Mercado.
He also denied that he suggested that the money earned from the recent basketball league be divided among the village chiefs. "It's not true that we received P1,000 each. In fact, I've proposed that a financial report be made," he said.
Mercado called all his village chiefs for a meeting on Wednesday, August 2 to clarify the issues./KVC
