TWO crewmen of MT Solar 1 that sank Friday at Guimaras Straight remain missing as the spill of bunker oil continues to spread to Guimaras islets and even to Negros Occidental.
Reported still missing by the Philippine Coast Guard here Tuesday are oiler Victor Morados of Dumaguete and Art Ian Nabua, an able-bodied seaman (AB) from Bataan.
Nabua and Morados were among the 20 crew of MT Solar 1. Some 18 crewmembers survived after their vessel capsized at 4:20 Friday.
Meanwhile, 1,180 households of fisherfolk in Nueva Valencia and Sibunag towns stand to lose the source of their livelihood to the oil pollution, Guimaras Governor Rahman Nava said.
He said some 239 kilometers of coastline are in danger of being contaminated with the bunker oil. Already, 15 kilometers have been declared by authorities as "total risk area." As well, 105 hectares of mangrove have been damaged, he said.
Affected barangays in Nueva Valencia are San Roque, Polares, Tando, Locnayan, Lapaz, San Antonio, Cabalungnan, Igdarapdap, Panogbulan and Ewanon Islets.
Among the barangays in Sibunag-a town 30 kilometers from the coastline-affected by the oil spill are Alegria, San Isidro and the resort islets of while Nagarao, Siraray, Lebas, Pamangcolan and Naway and Sapang.
The governor said some 14 households in Barangays Dungcan and Dogmayan will be evacuated because of the danger they face from of the effects of the bunker oil spill.
The local government of Guimaras continues to give relief goods to the affected households.
