No strong opponent for Tupas? By Jay Dooma Balnig
DOESN'T the governor have a strong opponent?
If Governor Niel Tupas Sr. were to size up his prospective rivals come 2007, he has none.
Tupas, in an interview, said he does not know of any prospective gubernatorial candidate who is visiting the barangays to start a campaign base.
"So far, no one seems to be visiting the barangays like I did during my campaign that led to my victory," he said.
Tupas also said the administration's party is still persuading Ma. Lourdes Arroyo Lisaca to run for governor.
But Lisaca, who he said visits him in his office and joins him in meetings and other occasions, has expressed to run for Congress representing the province's fourth district, he said.
Lisaca is registered with the Commission of Election's as a voter of Passi City, the place of former mayor Jesry Palmares, opponent of Representative Ferj Biron.
On the other hand, the administration's party is considering Rep. Arthur Defensor of Iloilo's 3rd district to run for governor against Tupas.
Reports also said that Defensor discreetly met with the mayors of the fifth district last week. What the meeting was about, no one is telling.
