Road mishap kills 2, hurts 17

TWO died while 17 others were rushed to the hospital Monday when the driver of a passenger jeepney lost control of the vehicle, toppling it on its side, along the highway of Barangay Gines, Zarraga, Iloilo.

Declared dead were Reynold Octavio, 28, of Jalaud Sur, Zarraga and Susana Magbanua, 51, of Tomcon Ilawod, Pototan, Iloilo.

Confined at Western Visayas Medical were Rey Cabacas, 26, of Jalaud Sur, Zarraga and the driver of the jeepney (FVU 490), Florelyn Dayot of Balabag, Dumangas, Rolando Sumagaysay, 45, Robert Talite, 22, Susa Ruiz, 45, all of Jalaud Sur, Zarraga.

Confined at West Visayas State University Medical Center were Alfred Christopher Brasas, 13, of Gines, Zarraga, Generoso Gebalid of Zarraga, Giner Drilon, 18, of Dumangas, Felixberto Genilito, 49, of Jalaud, Zarraga, Richard Magbanua, 41, of Tomcon Pototan, Jojit Suria, 24, Singay, Mina, Joel Galez, 31, Balud I, Zarraga, and Marichu Braga, 26, of Hamabalud, Dumangas.

Ricky Perucho, 35, of Balud, Zarraga and an unidentified man aged 40-45 years old, are now at Iloilo Mission Hospital.

PO2 Mars Heso of Zarraga Police Station said the accident happened at 9:30 a.m. while the group was heading for Iloilo City.

The jeep's front right wheel was mangled after it flipped several times. The slippery road, brought by the rains, had contributed to the accident, police said.
