Girl, 19 almost raped, stabbed to death By Ruby P. Silubrico
A 19-year-old girl died after fighting back her 'rapist'.
Myra Gellangarin succumbed to six stabbed wounds including two defense wounds on her arms after battling Philip Jinon who reportedly attempted to rape her inside her room at Brgy Bakhaw, Mandurriao, Iloilo City Thursday.
Uncle of Gellangarin, Ruding Deocampo who is living in an adjacent room from her's said that he has heard a noise coming from his niece's room at 2 am.
Hurrying to her room, he saw her niece with stabbed wounds.
He then came out and saw Jinon who was holding a knife with bloodstain. Deocampo attempted to arrest Jinon but was however pointed of the knife.
Deocampo said Jinon even warned him from revealing what he saw. Jinon then fled after the incident.
Police Precinct 5 Mandurriao Chief Orly Gabinete said that he is now trying to negotiate with the relatives of Jinon for him to surrender peacefully.
Little Villanueva, gay friend of Gellangarin said hours before the incident, he was at the room of the latter viewing a television show and left at around 10:30.
Police investigation showed that Gellangarin did not lock her room 'because she was expecting that her father, a van driver, will arrive and leave her, her allowance.'
Gabinete said that the rape was not consummated "because Myra (Gellangarin) fought back which forced Jinon to stab her."
