IPG open boxing tourney ongoing By Ian C. Espada
THE Iloilo Provincial Government (IPG) through the Office of Economic Enterprise (OEE) is holding a three-day Open Boxing Tournament starting August 24 at the New Iloilo Provincial Capitol Parking Area.
The opening ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm at the capitol parking ground.
Francisco T. Heler, Provincial Government department head of OEE, will welcome the athletes and delegates while the oath of sportsmanship will be led by Joven Pacifico, a boxer from Lambunao, Iloilo and a bronze medalist in 2006 Philippine Boxing Olympics held in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.
Simplicio Quima, ABAP-Panay Guimaras RJ Commissioner will lead the oath of officiating official and the reading of tournament rules and guidelines, to be followed by the inspirational message of Mr. Wilfredo Ciokon, President, ABAP Region VI.
Gov. Niel D. Tupas, Sr. will do the formal declaration of the opening of the (Gov. Niel D. Tupas, Sr.) Open Boxing Tournament.
For Batang Pinoy Division (13 years old and below), weight category includes: 26 kg no weight; 28 kg Light Cotton Weight; 30 kg Cotton Weight; 32 kg Light Power Weight; and 34 kg Powder Weight while for Open Category the weight limits are as follows: 36 kg Mosquito Weight; 38 kg â€" Light Vacuum Weight; 40 kg Vacuum Weight; 42 kg Paper Weight; 45 kg Pin Weight; 48 kg Light Fly Weight; 51 kg Fly Weight; 54 kg Bantam Weight; and 57 kg Feather Weight.
Raul Mondejar, OEE Sports Division Chief, said as of press time, 10 towns from the province of Iloilo have confirmed their participation of this event, which includes San Dionisio, Barotac Nuevo, Anilao, Banate, Lambunao, Leganes, Passi City, Miagao, Sta. Barbara and Janiuay. In Iloilo City, four boxing clubs will also join, he said.
Mondejar said further this tournament is just a springboard for amateur boxers to higher level of competitions in both national and international arenas. (Capitol News)
