Casualty was not due to oil spill: agency By Jay Dooma Balnig
THE Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) recently did not consider the death of Remelio Dalida of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras as a result of the oil spill.
The Department of Health (DOH), Department of Environment and Natural Resources and other major government agencies who submitted their reports to the RDCC last August 25 showed that no person died because of the oil spill in Guimaras.
Dalida's death the other week was highly publicized because this was suspected to have caused by the fumes and harmful odor of the oil sludge encroaching the shorelines of almost 30 villages in Guimaras.
A media report quoted Dr. Felecito Lozarita of Guimaras Provincial Health Office as the one who came out with findings that showed that Dalida died due to cardio respiratory arrest caused by fumes.
But, during its presentation before the National Disaster Coordination Council, the RDCC was firm in its report that the oil spill had no relation to Dalida's death.
RDCC records being prepared by Director Rosario Cabrera showed that there are 26 direct villages, 3,487 families and 17,435 persons affected.
Meanwhile, the DOH has already issued warning to those who are involved in the clean up operation to take precaution when exposed to the oil sludge. The DOH said that direct contact to his is harmful.
