School mum on pageant controversy
By Jay Dooma Balnig

AFTER the controversy in the Search for Mr. and Ms CPU High School 2006 broke out, the organizers from the Central Philippine University (CPU) remain mum on the issue.

CPU Development High School Principal, Nelson Pomado and other staff who served as the Steering Committee members in the pageant, refused to issue any statement regarding the alleged wrong tabulation of scores of the pageant's winners last August 17.

Members of the media tried to get the organizer's side, but no one seems to be ready to do so.

The offended party, which is composed of the judges headed by interior designer Edgardo Suelo, chief judge, received information that the steering committee will meet them before they could decide on the demands of Suelo. Earlier, Suelo sent a letter through his counsel, Atty. Ronnie Delicana. They executed affidavits in preparation for the civil case that they will file before the Regional Trial Court.

It was learned that Suelo is also preparing to file criminal charges against Steering Committee Chairperson Jovi Joy Guatelara, member Annalee Laquesta and others.

The criminal case will be filed separately at the Iloilo City Prosecutors Office anytime.

Suelo complained that the committee did not recognize the judges' final decision and rather the former announced a different winner, based on the results of the tabulation.

The judges' decision was in favor of contestant no. 6 Jesus Angelo Martinez, while the steering committee's tabulation yielded that contestant no. 4 won.

Two other judges, Mia Fe Lopez and Wilna Habaradas-Dolar, sustained their stand that Martinez is the real winner.

He added, "May committee's choice sila gali nga amo man to ang gusto nila padag-on nga Mr. CPU High School 2006, si contestant no. 4. Gintunto lang gid kami nga mga judges. Nga-a indi nila pag-ipakita sa amo ang score sheet sang mga judges sang nagademand kami kay indi kami kumporme sa score sa tabulation." (They committee also had their choice, contestant no. 4. They took us for fools. Why did they refuse to present to us the score sheet when we were not contented with the tabulation result?" Suelo said.

Suelo said that his move is a protection for the students whom he said are "victims by people behind the pageant."

"We will bring them to court and this incident may serve as a lesson for them and to others," he added.

Tomorrow, the university will hold the Mr. and Ms CPU 2006 Pageant. The declared winners in the Mr. and Ms CPU High School 2006 will represent their department in this pageant.
