PCSO to release P12.7M worth of medicines for oil spill victims By Ruby P. Silubrico
THE Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) will be releasing P12,750,000 worth of medicines to the affected families of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras.
PCSO Regional Director Jeanette Oberio confirmed Monday that the Board of Directors, headed by Chairman Sergio Valencia and General Manager Rosario Uriarte, has already approved the request of the Department of Health through its Secretary Francisco Duque III to release the said funds.
This assistance will be used to protect the health of those affected.
The release of funds was instructed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who continues to give attention and concern to the health of the people of Guimaras.
She visited Barangay La Paz, Nueva Valencia recently and saw the situation.
On the other hand, Guimaras Representative Edgar Espinosa Monday gave some relief goods to more than 500 persons in Barangay La Paz in celebration of his birthday.
Instead of celebrating his birthday with his friends, Espinosa opted to spend his time with the families giving rice, cans of sardines and noodles.
"I told my friends that instead of spending it to drinking and eating, we'll buy goods to our people who are affected of the oil spill. I'm happy celebrating my birthday with the people here," Espinosa said.
The PCSO also conducted a medical mission in the said village. (RPS/Ramon Salvilla)
