Group zeroes in on kidnap personalities; 5 traders real targets

THE Task Force William (TFW) is now zeroing in on some personalities believed to be involved in kidnapping businessman William Lim last August 30.

TFW led by Senior Superintendent Norlito Bautista, Iloilo City Police Office director and head of the TFW, said they are now zeroing on the whereabouts of some personalities who probably have ideas about the incident.

Bautista did not give further information about this so as not to pre-empt their ongoing operation.

"We can't fully give other information we have gathered because we have to be discreet. We worked hard on this case in order to solve it as soon as possible, although we have no time frame on this," he added.

The source said that Lim was not actually the real target but some five businessmen -- one is a hotel owner, construction firm owner and some establishment owners.

The kidnappers were not able to get their targets, so they opted to take Lim by chance.

On the other hand, Western Visayas Police Regional Office Director Geary Barias said that all the gathered information are being assessed. He said he has no idea that five businessmen are being targeted.

"Out task force personnel are now on the field to gather information because there's still no cooperation from the victim as to the information on what really happened," Barias said.

Lim, the owner of Equity Lending Inc. was abducted along corner Ledesma-Quezon Streets last August 30 at 8 p.m., according to the police.

The kidnappers demanded P30 million, which was later, lowered to P3 million. The negotiation ended up futile, thus Lim was released on the evening of August 31. (RPS)
