N. Occidental police chief to assume higher post By Ruby P. Silubrico
THE provincial police director of Negros Occidental, Senior Superintendent Charlie "Charles" Calima, would be relieved from his post soon so he could assume a higher one at the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Western Visayas.
PRO Regional Director Geary Barias confirmed this Thursday.
He said that Camp Crame is asking for nominees to replace Calima as soon as possible.
Calima will become the deputy regional director for Operation of the PRO because Senior Superintendent Isagani Cuevas would be promoted and will transfer to Camp Crame.
The chief of the regional directorial staff, Senior Superintendent Reynaldo Rafal, would replace Cuevas.
"This is a good opportunity for Calima and for Cuevas who would be promoted. This is part of our routine to change our personnel for better services to the community," Barias said.
Barias already has a list of possible replacements of Calima. They are Co Yee Co, chief of the Regional Police Community Relations Division; Rosendo Franco, station commander of Pasay; and Elias Canapi III of the National Capital Region Police Office. Franco is a former station commander of Sagay, Negros Occidental for a long time and is familiar with its places.
Their names would be forwarded to the higher command then it would be Negros Occidental Governor Joseph Marañon who will select the next provincial director.
Assessment
Barias said no other provincial and city director will be relieved, but he is now assessing personnel with the rank of Superintendent for utilization in the field.
"We are now looking into how we can utilize our senior officers in the region because there are other provinces that lack such. I directed the Chief of our Regional Personnel and Human Resource Development Division, Senior Superintendent Lazaro Torcita, to come up a study on how to utilize fully our Superintendents and Chief Inspectors," Barias said.
The provinces where this will take effect are Capiz, Antique and Iloilo.
Barias said he will also put in Inspectors and Senior Inspectors in police stations manned by Police Non-Commission Officers.
"We are waiting for the 76 police officials who are now under training. We will choose the police stations' officer-in-charge from them," he added.
