More people with Aids coming out

REGIONAL STI HIV/Aids Coordinator Charity Perea said the number of People Living with HIV/Aids (PLWHA) increased but the number is just a tip of the iceberg.

Out of the 36 PLWHAs recorded in May this year, there are now 42 who came from Western Visayas and other regions. Most of them are women.

It is only in Western Visayas that HIV/Aids infected persons are grouped.

Aids Coordinator Perea said the Regional Center for PLWHAs was geared to gather all HIV/Aids infected persons and help them live normal lives by giving them access to care and support services.

With the free Anti retroviral (ARV) therapy, persons with HIV/Aids shall live longer. "They don't even need to tell everyone they have HIV."

"We have additional PLWHAs coming out. Maybe because of the free ARV or maybe because of our continuous information dissemination that HIV is very preventable and controllable if only people get the right information and responsible for their action and behavior."

The most common transmission of HIV/Aids is through sexual intercourse among other factors.

Urminico Baronda of the City Health Office said there are two persons from Iloilo City who have been diagnosed with HIV.

HIV tests were made in HIV dens in the city. The test is being conducted in the Western Visayas Medical Center. (LABB)
