Wednesday, October 04, 2006 Distura to run as Board Member under guv's camp
DUMANGAS Mayor Rolando "Rolly" Distura Tuesday confirmed that he would be running as Board Member instead of congressman for the 4th district of Iloilo under the banner of Governor Niel Tupas Sr.
Earlier, Distura revealed his intention to run as congressman against Representative Ferjenil Biron and planned to continue the programs of the late Representative Narciso Monfort.
However, with the entry of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's sister-in-law Marilou Arroyo Lesaca who wants to run in the 4th district, Distura opted to seek a post in the Provincial Board.
"Governor Tupas wants me to be part of his team. Who is Mayor Distura to refuse the offer of the good governor? This will be teamwork. It also shows that Governor Tupas trusts that I can handle the people in the 4th district," Distura said.
Previous meetings were made between Distura and Lesaca until the Distura decided to give way to the Lesaca, knowing that "she would be the best candidate to beat Biron."
"I am a team player, so what is best suited for me is where I could be in the good service to our people. I always think of the betterment of the people in the 4th District especially the Dumangasnons because I don't consider myself as the only solution for this," he said.
"I know there are better persons who are capable of running for the position. The people of the 4th District definitely need a leader with a stronger connection in the national government. Projects will definitely be coming in here," Distura added.
Distura would probably push for Vice Mayor Diasnes to take over his post while Councilor Ronaldo "Onal" Golez would be running as vice mayor. (RPS)
