By Ruby P. Silubrico

THE parents of a 19-year-old boy, who drowned in Ungka, Pavia in the wake of typhoon Melinyo, claimed a wrong cadaver.

The couple is now asking for the help of the local government of Dumangas.

Richard Capeñanes Sr., father of Richard Capeñanes Jr., appealed to Mayor Rolando Distura to help them return the cadaver that was recovered in Bacay, Dumangas on Friday.

In a radio interview, Capeñanes said that their son went missing on September 27 while at the river for a swim with his friends.

The Black Panther Volunteer Rescue Group headed by Supreme Commander Jeorge Dairo, 1st Deputy Commander Dennis Guadaña, Sgt. 1st Class Leovie Amihan, and 2nd Class Antonio Guadaña immediately conducted a rescue operation but to no avail.

Last Friday, a decomposing body was found at Bacay and the Capeñanes couple said it might be Richard Jr. because his description matched the cadaver's except for the mole on the left face.

Capeñanes got the cadaver and let it stay in their house for three nights. When they found out about another cadaver along the Sambag River, they verified and found that it was Richard Jr. because of the white T-shirt and pants that he was wearing.

Mark Sanchez, friend of Richard Jr., confirmed the cadaver was of his friend because of his clothes.

On the other hand, Mayor Distura said he is willing to help the Capeñanes family and that he has consulted a judge on the matter of exchanging the cadaver.

"I have already instructed the police to coordinate with the family and with the judge for legal matters so that we can bury it as soon as possible," Distura said.
