THE family of two police officers who were killed by their team leader on Saturday night in Dueñas would be receiving financial assistance from the Police Regional Office (PRO) 6.
PRO 6 director Chief Supt. Geary Barias revealed that PO1 Lemuel Paparon and PO3 Ronilo Dequito would be receiving P75,000 in burial assistance from the command.
Barias said the two officers would also be receiving another benefit from Camp Crame after the necessary papers are completed.
Dequito and Paparon succumbed to gunshot wounds after they were shot by team leader PO2 Jose Diestro at around 8 p.m. Their altercation happened inside the detachment in Barangay Tinucuan, Dueñas.
The two were reportedly late for work by two hours and that they were drunk.
When Diestro asked them why they were late, Paparon got mad and challenged Diestro to a duel.
Diestro went to the barracks and retrieved an M16 armalite rifle.
Dequito tried to pacify Paparon so he fired a warning shot. Then Diestro thought that Paparon shot him, so he fired his gun and hit the latter on the head and chest. Dequito was hit on the chest and right hand.
Diestro voluntarily surrendered to his immediate superior and said he shot the two in self-defense. Diestro was charged with double homicide.
