ONE hundred thirty four gun enthusiasts from the Visayas participated in this year's Police Chief Superintendent Geary L. Barias Cup.

Hosted by Riverside Park Gun Club, the RD's Cup was held at the RPGC Firing Range in San Miguel, Iloilo from October 7 to 8, 2006.

Not only had the able bodied men joined the shoot for a good cause, even the women did.

Noticeable were Rodney B. Javellana, a member of Iloilo Practical Shooting Association, who enjoyed the match. Rodney, a one-legged man fondly called by friends as the "iron man", ranked 45th of the 83 shooters. A new lady shooter and a new certified Range Officer Annie Lynn Pet of RPGC also joined.

The proceeds of the match were donated to help the police visibility program of the regional office. Police Officers who were asked to render extra duty during nighttime at the busy streets of the city and near schools are given monetary allowance. This laudable project of Barias earned the support of the public particularly the "Free Masons" led by Prosecutor Melwen Sustento who organized the match.

Nelson Uygongco of Speedmasters, as expected, topped the Standard Division followed by Joemarie Sarria of RPGC.

Uygongco waived the championship trophy to Sarria.

The Production Division was dominated by Iloilo's Ace Shooter Emil Jason Jardeleza of the Camp Delgado Gun Club. He was followed by Gabe Morente of Capiz Gun Club. Inspector Adonis Rosales of Iloilo Gun Club was third. He was the champion of the PNP Category.

Open Division shooter and world shoot campaigner Ariel Garcia of Kalibo Gun Club topped the Open Division. Next to Ariel was Warnel Dellota of Speedmasters. Joseph Martin Yap of Condor Gun Club ranked third.

The Modified Division was topped by Arvin Brotarlo of IPSA, while Kent Peñaflorida of the same club comes next.

The other winners were: Standard Super Senior Category: Champion; Eddie Ang (GGC), 1st Runner up: Inocencio Lazarraga, Jr. (RPGC); Standard Senior Category: Champion: Melchor Escaba (IGCI); 1st Runner-up: Roberto Cabillon (Guardian); Standard Ladies Category: Champion: Elizabeth Jardeleza (CDGC); 1st Runner-up: Carmela Harder (RPGC); Production: Super Senior Category: Champion: Johnny Mabugat, Jr. (RPGC); 1st Runner-up: Eugene Original, Sr. (IGCI/CDGC); RO Standard: Champion: Fidel Cabrera III (IGCI); 1st Runner-up: Mark Ivan Tio (RPGC): 2nd Runner-up: Ben Bonete (CDGC): RO Standard Limited: Champion: Rico Quimsing (CIPSA); 1st Runner-up: Eugene Original II (IGCI); 1st Runner-up: Alain Francisco (Guardian); Law Enforcers: Champion: Guillermo Matiling (CDGC); PNP Production Champion: Adonis Rosales (IGCI); 1st Runner-up: Louie Barrientos; 2nd Runner-up: Jessie Agana; Standard Limited: Champion: Dr. Oscar Diaz (IGCI); Law Enforcers Standard: Champion: Dong Calleja (CDGC); 1st Runner-up: Jeremiah Sargado (CDGC).

Meanwhile, RPGC held its Anniversary Shoot, a level 2 match on October 14 and 15, 2006, at RPGC Firing Range in San Miguel, Iloilo.
