By Jay Dooma Balnig

ASSISTANT Provincial Prosecutor Davelin Colomna and the Iloilo Provincial Police Office Wednesday conducted an ocular inspection and reenactment of a shooting incident inside a police detachment that resulted to the death of two officers.

Counsel of accused police officer Jose Diestro, lawyer Isagani Pilaspilas also joined Colomna and the prosecutors-in-charge during a visit to the 4th PNP Mobile Group Compact Detachment in Barangay Tinucuan, Dueñas.

Diestro surrendered to Mayor Gregorio Brazas of Zarraga after the incident.

He was able to post bail for his provisional liberty after a charge of double homicide was filed against him before the Iloilo Provincial Prosecutors Office.

The victims were police officers Lemuel Paparon and Ronilo Dequito.

Dequito and Paparon succumbed to gunshot wounds after they were shot by their team leader police officer Jose Diestro at around 8 p.m. Their altercation happened inside the detachment at Barangay Tinucuan, Dueñas.

The two were reportedly late for their duty by two hours and that they were drunk.

When Diestro asked them why they were late, Paparon got mad and challenged Diestro to a duel.

Diestro went to the barracks and retrieved an M16 armalite rifle.

Dequito tried to pacify Paparon so he fired a warning shot. Then, Diestro thought that Paparon shot him, so he fired his gun and hit the latter at the head and chest. Dequito was hit on the chest and right hand.

Paparon and Dequito will receive P75,000 in burial assistance and some benefits from Camp Crame.
