Major roads close for Parade of Festivals

ILONGGOS have to bare traffic inconvenience as some major roads in Iloilo City will be closed Friday for the Western Visayas Tourism Assembly (WVTA) Parade of Festivals.

Ledesma, Iznart and JM Basa Streets will be closed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.

The parade's route is from Bonifacio Drive to Iznart Street or F. Caram Avenue, J.M. Basa Street, right turn to Ortiz Street, right turn to Rizal Street, right turn to Iznart Street, left turn to J.De Leon Street until Mabini Street, the dispersal area.

Traffic Management and Engineering Unit Chief Bob Foerster discussed the traffic scheme.

He added that they would utilize the traffic enforcers to organize the flow of traffic.

The following routes shall be observed by the Public Utility Jeepneys in going in and out of the City of Iloilo during the parade of Festivals:

City loop PUJ (Oton, Villa, City High and Mandurriao) coming from the direction of Molo district from MH del Pilar and that of B. Aquino Avenue (Diversion Road), Mandurriao shall pass Gen. Luna Street, turn right to Jalandoni Street (San Agustin), turn left to Delgado Street, turn right to Fuentes Street where they can load and unload their passengers.

To go back, they shall pass turning right at Ledesma Street, turn right to Jalandoni Street, turn left to Delgado Street, and turn right to Infante towards Gen. Luna,

Baluarte-Calumpang

PUJs coming from the direction of Lopez Jaena (Baluarte) such as Baluarte and Calumpang shall pass through Ledesma Street, turn right to Jalandoni Street, turn left to either De Leon or Rizal Streets and turn left to Fuentes, where they can load and unload their passengers. In going back, they shall turn left to Ledesma Street, towards Tanza and proceed to their respective point of origin.

Jaro

PUJs coming from the direction of Jaro such as Jaro/CPU/Jaro Liko shall pass E. Lopez Street, towards Luna Lapaz, turn left to Huervana Street where they can load and unload passengers.

In going back to their respective point, they shall turn left at Rizal Street fronting Lapaz market and proceed to their respective point of origin by passing Luna, L Paz towards E. Lopez Jaro and Jaro Plaza.

La Paz

PUJs coming from La Paz shall pass Huervana Street, turn left to Rizal Street, turn left to Sen. Drilon Bridge at the back of Hall of Justice where they can load and unload their passengers.

In going back, they shall turn left to the foot of the Quirino Bridge, turn left to Rizal, turn right to Huervana up to their respective point of origin.

Lapuz

PUJs coming from Bo. Obrero and Lapuz shall pass Rizal Street, left turn Sen. Drilon Bridge at the back of Hall of Justice where they can load and unload their respective origin.

Parola

All PUJs coming from Parola shall pass Zamora Street, turn right to Calazans Street, left turn to Dela Rama Street, left turn to JM Basa Street where they can load and unload their passengers. In going back, they shall pass through Gen. Hughes up to their point of origin.

No entry shall be declared to all types of vehicles during the parade from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. except in the streets that are officially used in the maintenance of peace and order.

Festivals

Today, 19 tribes from the different provinces of Region 6 will participate during the Parade of Festivals at the Freedom Grandstand.

The participating festivals are the Dinagyang and Paraw Regatta of Iloilo City, Masskara of Bacolod City, Pintados de Passi of Passi City, Babaylan and El Cinco de Noviembre Festivals of Bago City, Negros Occidental, Ati-Atihan and Bariw Festivals of Aklan, Sinadya sa Halaran of Capiz, Binirayan and Pahinis Festivals of Antique and the Mangahan Festival from the Province of Guimaras.

Also joining are the municipal festivals like Tinu-om of Cabatuan, Pandayan of Badiangan, Saad Festival of Leganes, Lanot Festival of Janiuay, Cry of Jelicuon of New Lucena, Kahilwayan of Sta. Barbara and Banaag Festival of Anilao.(RCS)
