Garcias won't support Drilon
By Jay Dooma Balnig

PUNONG Barangay Gilbert Garcia of South Baluarte, Molo said he will not support Senator Franklin Drilon in the latter's political ambition in Iloilo City.

His statement came amid speculations that Garcia might support the senator in his bid for the congressional post during the 2007 elections.

Garcia is the husband of City Councilor Merci Drilon Garcia, cousin of Drilon.

Drilon is said to be running against Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez Sr.

The senator has filed his voter's registration from South Greenhills, San Juan, Metro Manila to Iloilo City last Saturday.

The Garcias reiterated their support for Gonzalez.

Garcia said Drilon has failed to establish a project in his village, while Gonzalez did.

The Garcias also downplayed the theory pushed by several individuals that, "Blood is thicker than water."

He said the theory was proven in the 2004 elections wherein they did not support the partymates of Drilon but instead backed up Representative Raul Gonzalez Jr. for congressman and Mayor Jerry Treñas for mayor and their party.

Drilon supported the candidacy of former mayor Mansueto Malabor against Gonzalez in the congressional race.
