Mak slapped with frustrated murder
By Lory Ann B. Bilbao

ILOILO City Police Station 1 Chief Conrado Garganillo told Sun.Star Iloilo that Nap Nava personally went to the Iloilo City Police Station and filed a complaint against his uncle, who allegedly shot his left thigh while they were both inside the Governor's office last Nov. 14, 2006.

"He personally charged his uncle of trying to kill him," Garganillo said.

Nap's medical certificate was also exhibited as one of the supporting pieces of evidence.

The Nava clan, which has vehemently despised Nap and his solicitation of money from politicians and government officials, has earlier advised that Nap disregard the idea of filing charges against his uncle.

The family, in its official statement, warned that Nap will no longer be part of the family once he files a case against his uncle.

Background>

Last Nov. 14, Capitol employees were shaken after Mak shot Nap. A governor's assistant told the media that Mak confronted Nap about asking money from politicians.

Then, Sumakwel shot Napoleon on the left thigh. After being shot, Napoleon was heard saying, "I was shot, I was shot."

Lawyer Plaridel Nava, the provincial legal officer of Guimaras, said Nap had been degrading the Nava family, especially his father's name by asking money from Capitol employees, political figures, mall personalities, Chinese clients, priests and even from employees of the Guimaras Provincial Capitol, among others.

Plaridel said it hurt them more when Nap uses Mak's name while asking for money.

Security

The shooting incident has raised questions on the security inside the Provincial Capitol.

This led Board Members Niel Tupas Jr. and Angel Briones to author a resolution, which strictly directs the guards on duty to do a thorough inspection and body search not only of guests but also of Capitol employees and media practitioners.

Now, all deadly weapons are being deposited at the guard's counter and a body search is being done.
