Wednesday, January 03, 2007 Greater fortune in '07: Treñas By Lory Ann B. Bilbao
ILOILO City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas is positive that the year of the boar would bring greater fortune for the city of Iloilo.
He said that 2006, the year of the firedog, was good for the city. This was made obvious with the increase of the City's annual budget of more than 50 percent.
In 2007, more projects and foreign funding are anticipated to rise in the city to offer better services to the Ilonggos.
Treñas said these include the nationally funded expansion of the city's roads and the creation of two skywalks and some more road networks to ease traffic congestion in the city.
He added that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will be here this month for an ocular inspection of the city's road networks and hopefully to provide funds for more projects.
She has earlier promised billions of pesos for the pursuit of the Iloilo Flood Control Project.
Also, the most- anticipated Dinagyang festival, an internationally acclaimed happening in the city is again set to be placed in the national and international limelight on Jan. 28 to 29, 2007.
Earlier, the Asian Development Bank cited Dinagyang as successful because of the good relationship between the City Government and a non-government organization, the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc., hailed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
