Friday, January 05, 2007 Iloilo Parol Festival awarding ceremony held
ILOILO City's largest leisure, dinning and convention hub, The Centennial Resort Hotel and Convention Center celebrated Christmas and New Year meaningfully with the awarding ceremony of the first-ever Iloilo Centennial Resort Parol Festival on the evening of Dec. 30, 2006 at Bernwood Gardens.
Assistant City Planning and Development Coordinator, Nathaniel Guillergan conveyed an inspirational message in behalf of Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas while Aksyon Radyo anchor and commentator Joel Tormon hosted the affair.
This year, a total of ten participating barangays made it as finalists. The winners were finally bared: Lourdes Calijos Valero of Bo. Obrero, Lapuz, La Paz took home P20,000 for the first place while Celestino Decena of San Antonio, Oton, Iloilo was declared second placer and he received P15,000; and Jonathan Jalandoni of Barangay Ingore, La Paz won P10,000 for the third place.
Likewise, the consolation prizes of P2,000 each were awarded to Benjamin Tanaleon, Julius Sobusa of Barangay Zone III, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo, Jansen Felimon of Brgy. Dela Rama Compound City Proper, Jeffrey Ilisan, Noe Piodena of Brgy. Buray, Oton, Iloilo and Joseph Andrada of Brgy. Burgos, La Paz.
The affair finally concluded after the closing remarks of The Centennial Resort Hotel and Convention Center's Chief Executive Officer, Felix Tiu.
The 1st Iloilo Centennial Resort Parol Festival will hopefully become a yearly event and project of The Centennial Resort Hotel and Convention Center in partnership with ABS-CBN and Aksyon Radyo. With the support of the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VI, City Government and generous sponsor such as Pepsi Cola Phlippines, this laudable project aims to highlight the ingenuity and creativity of the Ilonggos in parol making.
The Centennial Resort Hotel and Convention Center takes pride of its 2,700-seater Iloilo International Convention Center and upcoming vast leisure, dining, wellness and adventure amenities. The region's biggest resort and hotel complex is conveniently located at Marikudo St., Alta Tierra Village, Jaro, Iloilo City had its soft opening last Dec. 15, 2006.
Now serving delectable buffet, ala carte and catering to functions are Oasis Pavillion and Asyana, an Asian fusion restaurant while Sidewalk Café serves tasty coffee concoctions.
