40 Dumangas villages get P1M worth of medicines
By Ruby P. Silubrico

THE local government of Dumangas through Mayor Rolando Distura and the Department of Health (DOH) gave out P1 million worth of medicines and vitamins Monday to 40 barangays in Dumangas.

The program was dubbed "Botika ng Barangay," part of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's project, launched in Dumangas, through her sister-in-law, Marilou Arroyo Lisaca.

In this project, every barangay would receive P25,000 worth of medicines to start a small business that would cater to the needs of the people in case of emergency.

Instead of going to town to buy medicines, they can now go to their Health Center and are assured that the medicines are in low prices and in good quality.

"People from far-flung areas need not to go to the town to buy medicines, they just have to buy it in their barangay. The medicines were in a lesser cost and are assured that it is not substandard," Distura said.

The village chief would formally receive it with already itemized medicines and vitamins to ensure that the project is well implemented.

"This is a big help to our people's health," he added.
The medicines came from Philippine International Trading Corporation.
