Dad to run against Gonzalezes
By Marie Katherine Villalon

COUNCILOR Erlinda Liberiaga will vie for the congressional post in the lone district of Iloilo. She will run against Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez Sr. and Representative Raul Gonzalez Jr. in the coming May elections.

Liberiaga made the revelation on Tuesday, several days after saying that she has been prodded by Mark Jimenez to do so.

Earlier, Liberiaga said she is hesitant to run for congresswoman because she owes the Gonzalezes a lot. She revealed that it was the justice secretary who helped her husband Bert Liberiaga to become an assistant prosecutor.

But on Tuesday, Liberiaga said she is no longer in the camp of the Gonzalezes.

One proof of this is when she and others distributed some religious materials that came from Jimenez.

"However, those were not political materials," she said over Aksyon Radyo on Tuesday.

On the other hand, Gonzalez Sr. said "that's her decision (to run). I can't stop her if she has her hidden agenda. She does not consult me with their activities."

Gonzalez said that he already had an inkling of Liberiaga's change in party affiliations. "For quite sometime, Mayor Jerry Treñas had been complaining that she has been joining Malabor (Mansueto) in Bolilao, Mandurriao. In fact, I'm not privy to that."

Gonzalez said he no longer considers Liberiaga as part of his camp. "Among the matters taken into consideration is, Mark Jimenez had been attacking me. And now, she distributed his political materials without letting us know about it. We are wary of this kind of development," he said.

"Why should we continue fraternizing with people who do not tell us what they want to do?" he added.
