Wednesday, January 10, 2007 Tupas officially declares Oso as running mate in May polls
ILOILO Governor Niel D. Tupas Sr. officially introduced Monday during a press conference, Board Member Domingo Oso Jr., as his Vice Governor during the upcoming national and local elections on May.
Tupas said Oso has all the qualities to qualify for the position he, being the local leader of Drilon's Liberal Party, is bestowing Oso.
Oso, who was also present in the conference has then laid his policies outlined "bringing the capitol to the barangays," which is similar to Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez' enchanting phrases, "bringing the Malacañang to Iloilo."
Oso, a Barotacnon said he'd pass a legislation which directs for a session with the members of the barangay councils in the whole province every month, to hear the economic and social problems in the smallest unit of the government, and create solutions to it.
To unite the people and bridge the gap with legislations, an ordinance declaring a people's day shall be done.
To achieve these agenda and other programs of the Provincial Government, Oso said, there is a need for a collaboration of the Legislative, which passes, creates laws among others, headed by the Vice Governor, and the Executive Department, headed by the Governor.
These were the things, which were essential to good governance and which he said the administration of present Vice Governor Armada lack.
Graded Armada's term "poor in performance," Oso said the people should really be wise during the May elections.
"As head of the Legislative Department, we were his children. He has the obligation to unite us all, despite differences and political affiliations," Oso remarked.
"The fact that he cannot do it, and even like quarrels and argument makes him ineffective."
Oso said he accepts the challenge of running, which the Governor has given him.
Tupas and Oso who were members of the Liberal Party discussed that Armada, who has leaped from their side to that of Mayor Lito Atienza's Liberal party, will not be recognized by the Comelec as the official candidate of the Liberal Party.
Tupas said the Comelec in its earlier decision has resolved that the group of Drilon where they belong remains the legitimate Liberal Party.
Filing of candidacy for the local level ends on March 29 but Tupas' group observed that the administration's party, Lakas-CMD, has not yet presented a gubernatorial candidate nor a Vice Gubernatorial.
Armada is one of the bets in the former but no administration's allies confirmed yet.
Armada said everything about the local candidacy is being resolved within the parties which supports President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
