Saturday, January 13, 2007 Vice mayor to end political career in '07 By Lory Ann B. Bilbao
ILOILO City Vice Mayor Guillermo De la Llana pronounced his rest from his 10-year old political career and endorsed Councilor Jed Patrick Mabilog as his successor.
Considered as the father of the 13 city councilors, de la Llana said he would give the chance of experiencing the position he has to the younger and more deserving politicians today.
During his pronouncement, he expressed support to and endorsed Mabilog to be the administration's vice mayoral candidate in the May elections.
De la Llana was earlier swayed by Councilor Erlinda Liberiaga to be her mayoral candidate opposite Mayor Jerry Treñas. Liberiaga, who bolted from the administration party, Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD), accepted the proposal of former Manila congressman Mark Jimenez to run for congresswoman in the lone district of Iloilo.
Liberiaga is creating an independent party group against the "political giants" led by Mayor Treñas and Representative Raul Gonzalez Jr.
In an interview with Aksyon Radyo, Councilor Armand Parcon divulged that Liberiaga has also talked to him about running for vice mayor. But Parcon considered the idea as a huge decision and great risk to take. As the godson of Liberiaga, Parcon said he has to be given a longer time to think about the proposal but he is most definite that he would still want his present position. Other personalities being courted by Liberiaga is her colleague, Councilor Perla Zulueta.
