Job well done: Barayuga
By Ruby P. Silubrico

THE Iloilo City Police Director Wesley Barayuga congratulated his men and other augmentation forces for a "job well done" by maintaining peace and order during the Dinagyang celebration that culminated Sunday.

Barayuga said as of 7 p.m. no untoward incidents took place as thousands of people were merrymaking along the main roads of the city.

"We are very thankful to the people who cooperated with us by having fun peacefully. The same to our men who are on the field for 24 hours," Barayuga said.

At every entry point going to the main streets, there were at least five PNP members, traffic enforcers and tanod members who were conducting checkpoints and frisking.

Barayuga said last Saturday, two thieves were arrested when they attempted to get valuables inside the bags of two women.

There were also eight K-9 dogs that Barayuga personally requested to help detect explosives and illegal drugs.

The police interns and cadets from various universities here were the ones who controlled the crowd from entering the performance area.

The Ati-atihan contest that has 20 participating tribes, ended at 12 noon.

The ICPO deployed more that 6,000 enforcers on the field including augmentation from the Armed Forces of Philippines (AFP) Philippine Air Force, Regional Maritime Office, Philippine Coast Guard, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and other government agencies.

The dignitaries and other VIPs were well guarded.
