By Ruby P. Silubrico

FOR the month of January, the Police Regional Office was able to arrest 19 persons for violation of RA 9165 or the possession illegal drugs.

In the 17 drugs operations, five were due to buy-busts and 12 are search operations. These resulted to the recovery of 121.761 grams of marijuana and 5.974 grams of shabu.

The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) and the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) have six apprehensions each.

Based on their records, Dulay said the apprehension has declined compared to the month of December last year wherein 51 persons were arrested.

"The decrease is indicative of the PNP's effective campaign against the proliferation of illegal drugs in the region. This includes the indispensable contribution of concerned citizens who helped in this endeavor. Had it not for the relevant information they provided regarding the illegal drug activities in their respective localities, the police would not achieve this record," Police Regional Director Wildredo Dulay said.

"But I still remind my men not to be complacent of this because the mere fact that we still have effective arrests and confiscate illegal drugs means that evil is still present," he added.
