Probe bureau denies bribery attempt By Ruby P. Silubrico
THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-Western Visayas Monday denied there was a bribery attempt by a politician who doesn't want some persons implicated in the killing of Tapaz Vice Mayor Victor Gardose.
NBI Chief Investigator John Katipunan said that as far as their office is concerned, they have not received any bribe money from any politician.
They insisted that they conducted an independent investigation.
"We have not received any bribe money and it can't happen because we are not accepting any cash in exchange for the case we are handling," Katipunan said.
According to reports, a certain politician from Capiz is now trying to negotiate with the NBI, asking them not to give focus to the case and not to implicate the other suspects in exchange for P800,000.
"As investigator of the case, I did not receive any bribe. I'm only doing my job of giving justice to the victims," Katipunan added.
However, the NBI is firm in continuing its investigation in order to pin down the killers of Gardose and his two companions.
The NBI has its own crime scene sketch of what happened and the position of the triggermen based on the revelation of a civilian witness.
They refused to reveal the other details so as not to preempt their ongoing investigation.
