Gerochi to file mandamus vs Ombud
By Lory Ann B. Bilbao

FREEDOM from Debt Coalition (FDC) chairman Romeo Gerochi said he would file a mandamus against the Ombudsman Visayas before the Court of Appeals regarding the cases filed against Mayor Jerry Trenas on the mothballed P125 million Pavia Housing Project.

Gerochi was one of the complainants of an administrative case before the Ombudsman in 2003. Three cases were filed against Trenas and the then Iloilo City administrator. Other complainant was former councilor, now a congressman, Raul Gonzalez Jr.

Treñas filed a motion for the dismissal last August. Of the cases, one was for gross neglect of duty. He has also denied the allegations, which involved him in the deteriorating housing project.

Gerochi wondered why the three-year-old cases were not resolved until now when it involved millions of pesos while that of Governor Niel Tupas Sr., which was filed not much earlier than the case of Trenas, was acted upon.

The housing project was intended for the City Hall employees and teachers.

Its construction started in April of 2001 and was initialized during the term of then Mayor Mansueto Malabor.

Ace Builders Enterprises, the winning bidder-contractor, stopped its construction at 60 percent completion stage a few years ago.
