Victim's mom points to helper in P1M theft
By Ruby P. Silubrico

PAULINE French, mother of Steve, one of the victims in the P1-million theft in Isla Naburot, Guimaras, points to the resort owner's helper as a suspect.

French said over the radio that she suspects that resort owner Ann Saldaña's househelp Aida Rose might be responsible because she was reportedly the one who went inside the guests' room.

Pauline said that prior to the incident, her son and Jan Eric Olsen went swimming then later, they asked for the services of Aida Rose's mother to massage them.

Aida Rose reportedly entered their rented room to place mosquito nets over the bed. When Olsen and French went inside their room they went to sleep without inspecting their belongings until the following the morning of Monday when these were already missing.

Meanwhile, the Police Regional in Western Visayas sought the help of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Western Visayas to conduct a parallel investigation for the immediate solution of the theft.

Police Regional Director Wilfredo Dulay said he has already directed Supt Renato Gumban to help Guimaras Provincial Director Modesto Sanson in the investigation.

Dulay was irked after Sanson failed to give him a positive result of the investigation two days after the incident happened prompting him to tap the services of the CIDG.

"I want a positive result and the arrest of those responsible for the crime that's why I sought the help of the CIDG," Dulay said.

Norwegian national Olsen, 37, and Filipino-Norwegian Steve French said their valuables and cash amounting to P1 million placed inside their rented cottage at the resort were missing.

Dulay believes that the suspects could be employees of the resort -- those who have knowledge of the victims' valuables and big amount of money.

"Everybody there is a suspect. It is possible that those responsible for the incident are just around the resort who have enough knowledge of where the victims are being billeted," Dulay added.

Dulay has directed Sanson to conduct an interrogation on the resort owner, her housemaid and other employees who were present before and after the incident.

It was learned that the duo arrived in Guimaras last Jan. 19, 2007 for a vacation and it's their second time in the resort.

Meanwhile, Dulay vowed to solve the case and arrest the robbers as soon as possible.

He appealed to the resort owner and employees to cooperate with the police in the investigation.
