Retired coast guard loses jewelry inside hospital By Ruby P. Silubrico
A RETIRED captain of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary lost his jewelry items while he was confined at the Iloilo St. Paul's Hospital at General Luna Street.
Retired Captain Ignacio dela Flor told the police Thursday that while he was confined last February 1, he discovered that his black bag with jewelry items was missing.
It contained a gold necklace worth P8,000, necklace with L pendant worth P5,000, ring with diamond worth P6,000, horseshoe gold ring with diamond and birth stone worth P5,000, ring with rectangular birth stone worth P6,000, a pair of gold earrings with ruby stone worth P10,000, Saudi gold ring worth P5,000, his N73 cellular phone worth P23,000, and his cash amounting to P3,000.
Dela Flor said that what was stolen from him amounted to P125,000.
He said he was staying at room 406 for pneumonia.
Upon learning that his valuables were missing, he informed the management of the hospital.
He added that before leaving the hospital last February 2, the management vowed to investigate the incident. However, after one week the result was negative.
Iloilo City Police Director Wesley Barayuga said he would investigate the incident but admitted that they found it hard to recover the items because Dela Flor made the report to the police a week after his discovery.
"If he reported the incident on the day of discovery, we can recover some jewelry but still we have to try our best to help him," Barayuga said.
