SPO1 Antonio Paraico, a native of the same town, used his service firearm, a 9 mm caliber pistol, in defending himself from further physical harassment by an alleged mentally ill person.

Paraico said he was entering a store to buy a newspaper when a certain Alberto Britos, who held a four feet-long trunk of a guava tree, hit his head, and then his arm.

On the long run, the surprised policeman shot Britos. But the latter seemed determined to continue on his harassments.

Paraico said he thought of hit the feet of Britos, who stood five to eight meters away, to stop him, but the latter was hit in the chest, which caused his death.

The family of Britos and the cop has talked for settlement but nothing was final yet.

Barotac Nuevo PNP has manifested that Paraico has exhausted self-defense. LABB
