Legarda hopes to get more votes in Iloilo
By Ruby P. Silubrico

WITH Barotac Viejo Mayor Raul "Boboy" Tupas as her campaign manager in Iloilo, former Senator Loren Legarda is hoping to get more votes.

Legarda in a press conference Tuesday at Ocean City Restaurant formally presented Tupas to the media as her campaign manager in Iloilo.

Pinoy Votes: Sun.Star Election 2007

Legarda got the highest votes in Barotac Viejo during the last election and she expects to gain more with Tupas behind her. She said she also gets the support of mayors like Jet Rojas of Ajuy, Gerardo Flores of Miag-ao, Carina Flores of Oton and Myrna Torres of Tigbauan.

In a recent national survey, Legarda is the top favorite senatorial candidate and she believes that she would win if the May election is clean and honest.

With this, she is asking the support of the media and the local government to be watchful of the ballots during elections to avoid fraud. She said she has learned her lesson when she lost to Vice President Noli de Castro. She claimed that she was cheated.

"To be an opposition candidate is very difficult. I learned my lesson during the 2004 elections. This is not a lesson for me but for the Filipino people so I ask all of you to be watchful," Legarda said.

"If this 2007 election is not clean and honest election, there is a big threat to our democracy.

She said she would not throw any issue against the administration but she would let the people make their choice as she laid down her credentials and her significant accomplishments when she was a senator.

But, she challenged the administration to solve the media killings in the country and expedite the resolution of the cases.

"Media killings are notorious and should not be allowed to go on. This is a challenge to the administration to solve a least one case and persecute those responsible for it," Legarda said.
