Distura says yes to cong'l bid
By Ruby P. Silubrico

DUMANGAS graduating Mayor Rolando Distura said he would gladly accept the offer to run as representative in the 4th district of Iloilo if only to pursue the aborted projects of the late congressman Narciso Monfort.

Though the final say rests on Governor Niel Tupas Sr., and other top local executives, Distura said the challenge to run for Congress and race against incumbent Ferjenel Biron, is a cup of tea.

The confirmation will be announced this week after several meetings with the Governor's allies, said Distura.

In a recent meeting, Tupas strongly endorsed Distura, who is the district chairman of Kampi, to run against the incumbent because "he is very much qualified and is considered as a strong contender."

"This is a good offer to me, but if it becomes official, this would also mean a sacrifice. This is not my personal interest but that of the people of the 4th district, who are thirsty of a real public servant," Distura said.

"The people here are used to someone whom they can rely on. In this case they need performances such as that of the late congressman Monfort. They need more projects and dedicated public servant and I can't afford to disappoint them," he added.

Distura acquired a blessing from Former Passi City Mayor and once congressional contender, Jesry Palmares after another candidate and presidential sister-in-law, Marilou Lisaca opted to run as Party-List representative said Tupas.

Another option is a native of Barotac Nuevo, and once cabinet officer, Rico Blancaflor.

Distura's other option

Distura said he is also considering the option to run as vice mayor in his town as he personally endorsed his incumbent Vice Mayor Julito Diasnes to take the mayoral seat.

Distura opted to run for the lower position after Councilor Ronaldo Golez refused to tandem with Diasnes and accepted Biron's offer to run as mayor and pair with Junjun Biron as his vice mayor, a brother of Congressman Biron instead.

Distura said he also wanted to run in a lower post for various reasons. First, was he wanted to take care of his group and make sure that it is still intact.

Second, he considers himself as a team player and can't afford to abandon his group.

"I'm not an ungrateful public servant to leave my group and aim for a higher post. I can even run as Board Member and I know I have a big chance to win. Vice Mayoral post is a little thing for me but, I am a man with a word of honor. Thus, I will sacrifice." Distura said.
