Monday, April 02, 2007 Parolee stabbed tanod chief over a grudge By Ruby P. Silubrico
A PAROLEE is now the subject of police manhunt operation after killing a tanod chairman on Friday night at Mina East, Iloilo.
Inspector John Paul Tovera, chief of Mina Police Station said that his men are still conducting an operation against a parolee, Manuel Gomez, 27 of Mina West.
Gomez allegedly stabbed dead Juanito Poblacion, 53, of Naumwan, Mina.
Tovera said the incident happened at around 11:40 p.m. while Poblacion was on his way home from a wake of his relative when Gomez suddenly appeared before him.
Poblacion greeted him but instead of answering, he got his knife then stabbed the tanod chief several times. Not contented, he slashed the tanod's throat.
He immediately fled after the incident and remains at large as of press time.
Several days prior to the incident, a heated argument ensued between the two.
Sources said Poblacion was reportedly directing the traffic along the road of Barangay Naumwan when Gomez passed by.
Gomez reportedly besmirched him while in front of many people that irked Poblacion and a followed an argument between them.
Tovera theorized that the recent conflict between them has something to do with the crime.
"We have to file charges against him despite his being at large and hopefully we can get him anytime from now," Tovera said in a telephone interview.
Gomez has once been charged for a criminal charge and was convicted but he was able to file an appeal before the office of Parole and Probation Office and was able to secure a parole.
