Friday, June 08, 2007 BIR investigates computer-training center
THE owners and officers of a Cybertech Training Center in Jalandoni, Lapuz, Lapaz, will be facing an appropriate criminal punishment if proven guilty of duping the parents of students enrolled at their computer program.
This was learned from Miss Marie Crister Vallejo, assistant revenue district officer of Revenue District Office 74 of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), based here in Iloilo City.
It was also learned from Vallejo that the training center is now under investigation of the Special Investigation Division of the Bureau of Internal Revenue, headed by Maila Guindam.
"The public could know the result of the investigation later on. As of now, we could not issue statements regarding the case because it is still under investigation," said Vallejo in an interview.
It was reported that the center issued receipts even though it was not registered at the Bureau of Internal Revenue.
Earlier, angry parents of the students went to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and complained that employees of the said Cybertech Training Center convinced them to enroll their children, mostly high school graduates, in their training center.
According to the complainants, Charli Laureano owned the training center. They asked the parents to pay P500 as registration fee of the students who will undergo trainings in various computer schools, particularly the AMA Computer Learning Center.
It was learned from Vallejo that the suspects were making house to house recruitment and upon registration, they issued allegedly fake receipts with office address at Jalandoni, Lapuz, Lapaz.
It was learned later that there was no Cybertech Training Center in the area.
"Almost P3, 800.00 were collected to us by the said suspects," said one of the parents who refused to be identified.
The concerned parents are also willing to file their sworn affidavits as part of their preparations to file charges against the suspects.(Roy Cejar)
