This season, snatchers, pickpockets and other criminal elements are expected to intensify their nefarious activities victimizing mostly children and students.
Police Chief Superintendent Wilfredo V. Dulay Sr., director of Police Regional Office 6 (PRO 6), said he had already directed all field commanders to undertake proactive measures to ensure the security and safety
of students and public in general as the upsurge of commuters is expected with the opening of classes.
In compliance to the mandate of Oplan Balik Eskwela, police visibility patrol is now being enhanced in terminals, school vicinities, malls and major thoroughfares of the cities and towns to deter occurrences of
cellphone snatching, pickpockets, theft, robbery and hold-up incidents.
Dulay also noted that the most common targets and vulnerable victims of street crimes are the children and students. "As of now, we don't have the statistics on street crimes, there being no report yet from lower
units," he said adding, "we focus on the implementation of the necessary pro-active measures, particularly on our dissemination of leaflets on safety tips against common crime incidents that usually transpire during
this season."
But, again, the PNP stressed that the best measure against street crimes is for the public to be careful against suspicious personalities and to be on guard with their own valuables and other personal belongings
once in a crowd or while on travel. (Press release)For more Philippine news, visit Sun.Star Dumaguete. (June 7, 2007 issue) Write letter to the editor. Click here. Join the Sun.Star message board. Click here. |
