Saturday, June 16, 2007 Suspect in Pulupandan ambush falls
AFTER long years of hiding from authority, Ka Bong or Pendong or Martin Mata fell into the hands of operating elements of 6th Regional Mobile Group (RMG) and Bacolod City Police Office last June 12.
Ka Bong is allegedly the Deputy Secretary of the Organizing Committee of Kometeng Rehiyonal Negros (KRN) of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP/NPA) in Negros Island. In Aug. 8, 2006, Honorable Judge Moises G Nifras Sr. of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 59, San Carlos City issued a warrant of arrest against Ka Bong for the crime of robbery in band.
The suspect was together with certain Arturo Pabiona alias Ka Kim, the alleged Intelligence Officer of KRN-CPP/NPA. The duo was on board a white Toyota Neon Taxi bearing license plate number FWC 264 when apprehended by the police on checkpoint operations along the National Highway of Talisay City.
Based on the initial result of the investigation, Ka Bong is identified as the team leader of the group who staged an ambush last April 28, 2007 against the now Mayor-elect Atty Magdaleno Peña of Pulupandan, Negros Occidental.
Police Chief Superintendent Wilfredo V. Dulay Sr. said further investigation is still being conducted by the concerned police units to determine the other participations of Ka Bong and Ka Kim in some other cases of CPP/NPA atrocities in Negros Island.
The Warrant of Arrest issued by Honorable Judge Nifras does not recommend bail for temporary liberty of Ka Bong who is now with Ka Kim under the custody of 6th Regional Mobile in Camp Aniceto Lacson, Victorias City, Negros Occidental. (PR)
