Tuesday, November 27, 2007 DILG tells SKs: Live up to expectations By Elsa Subong
DEPARTMENT of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Director Evelyn Trompeta said she was hoping the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) would live up to expectations by being good role models of the youth.
She said the SK Federation presidents are representatives of the youth in governance at the municipal and city levels.
She said the DILG is on its toes organizing and training the SKs so they would be better equipped to perform their functions.
The DILG is conducting the Iskolar Bos on December 3 for the SKs in preparation for the SK Federation elections in the municipal and highly urbanized cities on December 6, Provincial Federation on December 17, and National Federation on January 17.
Iskolar Bos is an Integrated Sangguniang Kabataan Leadership orientation and Reorientation and Basic Orientation Seminar.
For the Liga officers, Trompeta said the process of elections should be of concern because the Liga president also sits in the Municipal Council and City Council where they are expected to contribute responsive legislations for the welfare of their constituents.
"The Liga is important because it represents the basic unit of governance, a vital link to government," Trompeta said.
The Liga elections for municipal and component cities will be on December 11, provincial, metro and highly urbanized cities will be on December 29, and national chapters on January 29. (PIA 6)
