Tuesday, November 27, 2007 Police won't put up Christmas lights to save power By Ruby P. Silubrico
ILOILO City Police Office (ICPO) Director Senior Superintendent Wesley Barayuga advised all police stations to put more emphasis on saving energy than putting up Christmas lights and decors that require power consumption.
In his recent directive, Barayuga recommended that all police stations avoid putting on Christmas lights to save energy and save money.
Barayuga's directive was made following the rise in the police's electric bill to P200, 000 per month. That includes the electric consumption of the main station and the six police precincts in the city.
It was learned that the City Government has been paying the police's electric bill since October 15 this year.
Barayuga said it is the only way to help the city minimize expenses. He added that the higher police office's funding is not enough to pay the soaring bills.
As part of the austerity measure, he ordered his men to put off air conditioners, lights, and computers if not in use.
Better yet don't use air conditioners anymore and open the windows instead, he stated. (RPS)
