Thursday, December 27, 2007 NPA offensives won't stop for the holidays By Ruby P. Silubrico
THE New People's Army (NPA) rejected the ceasefire deal in celebration of the holidays offered by government forces and are threatening to launch attacks on various police stations and military detachments in Western Visayas.
This was according to Captain Lowen Gil Marquez of the military's Civil Relations Unit.
Marquez said the rebels are preparing to launch atrocities during their anniversary celebration next week.
Targeted police stations are those located in remote areas in the three provinces of Antique, Iloilo and Capiz.
Marquez said that the members of the rebels in Panay are targeting the stations in the towns of Tubungan, Leon, Alimodian, San Miguel, Calinog and Lambunao in Iloilo; Tapaz, Dumarao and Dumalag in Capiz and; San Remegio in Antique.
Meanwhile, the “Negros Terrorist Party Committee” is reportedly eying the stations and detachments in the towns of Cauyan, Hinobaan, Ilog, Candoni, Kabankalan and Sipalay.
"The Armed Forces of the Philippines are not intimidated by the rebels’ threats. They should be respecting innocent civilians who want to celebrate Christmas peacefully. But if they insist, we are always on a defensive mode, ready to counter terrorist attacks," Marquez said.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) reportedly deployed more personnel on the field as per advise from the higher office.
