Monday, May 12, 2008 Mondejar wants provincial road conversion settled By Erwin Cabarles
AFTER his proposed ordinance was tabled three times due to some other matters, Provincial Board member June Mondejar hopes that his "Ordinance Prescribing the Guidelines and requirements for the Conversion of Barangay Road to Provincial Road" would be approved in the next session.
As chairman of the Committee on Infrastructure and main proponent of the said ordinance, Mondejar wants the matter settled as soon as possible as it has been set aside a few times in the past sessions.
The proposal was based on the findings of Mondejar that there were no existing guidelines for conversion of a barangay road into provincial road.
The specific road intended for conversion is the Poblacion-Kipot road in the Municipality of Igbaras.
According to Mondejar, it is important to pass an ordinance regarding the matter so that in the future there would be guidelines in such conversions.
During the last Provincial Board session, Mondejar's proposal was tabled due to some technicalities. It was also agreed that a hearing will be conducted to settle the matter for its approval by the members of the Provincial Board.
However, the scheduled hearing last Thursday afternoon did not took place as members of the Committee on Infrastructure were not able to show up.
Mondejar said Board Members Jett Rojas, George Demaisip, Mariano Malones Sr., Cecilia Colada, and Richard Garin might have been busy that's why they weren't able to show up.
Regardless of the cancelled hearing, Mondejar said he would push the proposed ordinance in the next session and lobby for its approval.
"Dapat tani ma-settle na ni kay pila na ka beses na-table ini. Tani mapasar na ini para maka-establish kita sang guidelines for road conversion. Sa madason nga session, ipilit ko na lang nga mapasar ini," Mondejar said.
