Guv plans to files charges vs Suplico
By Erwin Cabarles

BACKING up the job hires sued by his estranged nephew, Iloilo Governor Niel Tupas Sr. is planning to file charges against Vice Governor Rolex Suplico.

Tupas said Suplico, his nephew, has stepped beyond the boundaries of his duties that should have been the job of others.

With this, Tupas will file Oppression and Abuse of Authority against Suplico.

He however has not yet stated when he would file the said charges.

According to Tupas, he would directly file the complaint to the Office of the President for an immediate action.

Tupas said Suplico has done too much when he sued some of the poor and defenseless job hires assigned in various departments of the Iloilo Provincial Government.

"Ang aton 'ya sobra na to ang ginhimo 'ya. Kaluluoy man to ang mga job hires," Tupas said.

To note, Tupas, together with Provincial Administrator Manuel Mejorada, think that Suplico is abusing his position as Vice Governor. They said that some of Suplico's actions against the present administration are unjustifiable and might be politically motivated.

Tupas also added that he is confident the complaint against Suplico would hit him hard. To recall, Mejorada's previous complaint against Suplico filed at the Office of the President was taken up by the said office where an explanation is now being demanded from Suplico.

Mejorada's complaint was Suplico's abuse of authority after he allegedly tagged the complainant a "swindler" and "usurper" and, together with the Provincial Board (PB), deleted the budget allocation for his position.

Suplico, on the other hand, said in an interview over the radio that he welcomes the complaints of his uncle.

According to him, as far as he is concerned he has done nothing wrong and just did his duty as a public servant.

Suplico added that it is the duty of the PB to enact ordinances and that Tupas or Mejorada has no right to interfere with board matters.

It should be known that Tupas and Mejorada are also criticizing the PB for passing "defective" ordinances and "inappropriate" overrides to Tupas's vetoes.

Meanwhile, Tupas said the Provincial Government would provide lawyers for the sued job hires.

"Kita sina ang magasto sa ila. Masobra sa isa ang abugado nga i-provide naton kay kadamo nga daan sa ila ang gin-akusar," Tupas said.

He also reiterated that it should have been him whom Suplico sued since it was him who approved the job hires in the first place.

"Kun amo gin man na tani ako ang gin-una ya akusar kay ako ang nag-hire sa mga job hires. Kun i-akusar ya ako ti liable ako eh," Tupas added.

With regards to the controversial 2008 budget by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Tupas said he is confident it is Suplico who will be knocked-out. However, he said if ever the DBM declares that the 2008 budget is inoperative, he is not yet sure if charges will be filed against Suplico.

On the other hand, with regards to a recent Anti-Tupas propaganda obtained by Sun.Star, Tupas said he doesn't know who is behind the propaganda. However, he said that he has someone in mind but it is just a guess.

"Ah ti iya man na siguro ah pero waay kita kabalo kun kay sin-o gid na halin. Basata aton ya mayo ginabuhat ta," Tupas said.

The said propaganda states that under Tupas governance, it is alright to steal provided you do not get caught.
