A POLICE officer was stabbed to death Friday night by a barangay tanod after responding to a commotion at Barangay San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.
Police Officer 2 (PO2) Bobby Habaña, 32, assigned at Jordan Police Station, was declared dead by physicians around 4 a.m. Saturday. He was treated at Iloilo St. Paul's Hospital for the fatal wounds on his stomach and right lower shoulder.
Jordan Police Chief Inspector Edmund Cruz said the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. after PO2 Habaña responded to a commotion together with a Police Officer Pillora in Barangay San Miguel.
Upon reaching the crime scene, a barangay tanod identified as Rufo Tahum stabbed him.
Tahum fled after the incident.
His nephew Ruben, who was with him when he stabbed Habaña, was arrested and is now detained at the lock-up cell of Jordan Police Station.
Witnesses claimed that Pillora was not able to prevent the suspect from stabbing the victim.
Cruz said they are still conducting a manhunt operation to capture Tahum.
