Arson rap filed vs student

A CRIMINAL charge was filed against a 17-year-old boy who burned six classrooms last week in Barangay Caigon, Calinog, Iloilo.

Edwardo Leysa was supposedly an incoming grade VI pupil at Caigon Elementary School.

Leysa admitted that he tried to burn the school after the principal rejected his enrollment.

He added that he promised to be good in school but still he was not admitted or enrolled.

The suspect is allegedly a problem child in school. He was always involved in fistfights with other students. He even reportedly tried to harm his teacher.

An interrogation with the suspect revealed that he was drunk when he tried to torch the school. He however said he didn't really plan to burn the classrooms. He said it just came into his mind when he passed by the school after a drinking spree.

Leysa said he is ready to face the charges against him and added that he regrets what he did.

Leysa is presently in the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). (Ruby P. Silubrico)
