THE local government unit (LGU) of Quezon City in Metro Manila, headed by Mayor Feliciano "Sonny" Belmonte, has extended its helping hands to Iloilo City following the recent devastation of Typhoon Frank (Fengshen) and the flood.
Last Tuesday, Mayor Jerry Treñas said Quezon City has donated P2 million in financial aid to Iloilo City.
Treñas went to Quezon City Monday upon the invitation of Belmonte and to personally receive the aid. He also thanked the mayor for extending help to Iloilo City.
According to Treñas, Belmonte earlier called him and committed to provide assistance to Iloilo City, as it was one of the greatly devastated areas in Panay Island during the June 21 typhoon.
Treñas added that Quezon City would also donate about 1,000 used books to be distributed among the public schools.
The books in the schools were all damaged during the flood and teachers are presently seeking assistance from the government.
Treñas also said that other sister cities, such as the cities of Medan in Indonesia, Honolulu, and Qingdao in China, have committed to extend more aid to Iloilo.
Presently, the City Government continues the recovery operation with the help of various sectors, both private and public.
